Making of a dream- download it at calearth.org

Nader Khalili remains one of my heroes. He devised an architectural model to house the world's refugees. With one DC-10, he could deliver enough construction material to permanently house 5,000 refugee families. Needed materials: sandbags and rebar. On-site necessities: dirt or sand, water and sweat. Anyone can do this. A bunch of Grannies used the technique to build their own community here in Arizona. Veterans with severe disabilities can help with the construction. Because the walls are about 3 ft thick, minimal energy for heating/cooling required. Another tip: Add cement to the sandbags and wait for a good rain before plastering. Also check out the website: www.calearth.org for a week-long training seminar.
